5/5/2021

On May 5, 2021, at about 8:00 AM, the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle fire approximately one mile up Galloway Road south of Downieville. This area of Galloway Road is a steep narrow dirt road surrounded by heavy forest. The fire was slowly spreading up the hill in the vegetation and was being driven by a light wind. The Downieville Fire Department responded and asked for mutual aid from Alleghany and Pike City Fire Departments as well as the US Forest Service (Tahoe National Forest). The California Highway Patrol was notified and responded to assist in the vehicle fire investigation.

As of 11:00 AM, the fire spread has slowed, and crews are getting it under control. Several hand crews including a Forest Service Hot Shot crew are on scene. Incident command of the fire has been assumed by the forest service and Downieville Fire was released from the incident.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the firefighters for their quick response and hard work getting the fire under control.
