Sierra Nevada Conservancy will fund the planning for a recreation project in Sierra Valley.
Nearly 800 thousand dollars has been awarded to Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship to begin planning a 63-mile trail connecting Loyalton, Sierraville, the East zone connectivity project, with the addition of evaluating three new trailheads.
Trinity Sterling, Connected Communities Project Manager, said the grant would allow the organization to make a significant step forward in the costly environmental planning in connecting the two rural mountain towns. The project will aim to improve access to recreational opportunities and link to the 70 miles of trail linking Loyalton to Truckee.
The three-year environmental review is expected to begin this year and be shovel-ready by 2026.
