A CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) report was given to the Sierra Plumas Joint Unified School Board on November 14th by Loyalton High School Principal Megan Meschery and Ag teacher Cali Griffin. The percent of graduating seniors who are completers of Agriscience Pathway and the Construction trades combined was 76% in 2023 and will be 71% in 2024. LHS has a new Mechatronics pathway that was started in 2022. The future of CTE across the District include EMT Basic offered through Adult Education to seniors, Medical CTE course exploration through Paxton/Patterson at Downieville High School, CTE course offerings through online platform PEAK/FuelED, and apprenticeship and paid work experience in Elementary Education.
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) 2022-23 report was given by Meschery. She explained it as a test to see how students have improved, gaps they may have, and is another piece of data to help guide instruction and support student learning. For this period, overall achievement for grade 3-12 was at 32.5% proficient or above. California is at 46.7%. Meschery felt the greatest need was in the area of writing with almost 40% at below standard.
Math has gone up compared to the previous year with the district at right about the state level of 34.2%. Going forward, she stated they need to focus on concepts and procedures.
Meschery was excited to report that science scores went “way up” from the year before at 35.5%. California is at 30.18%.
She stated as a whole, grades 3-12 and all schools in our district were higher than districts with similar demographics.
