UPDATE: Sayonara Homicide Suspects Arrested within 24 Hours On August 2nd, 2023 around 4pm, approximately 16 hours after the homicide, Citrus Heights Police detectives located and arrested two suspects in this case in Sierra County, California.
With the assistance of the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office, 19 year-old Anthony Murti and 28 year- old Richard Hernandez were detained and taken into custody. Murti is charged with PC 187 (Murder) and being held on a no-bail release. Hernandez is charged with PC 32 (Assessory After the Fact) and being held on a $200,000 bail. Both men were booked into the Sacramento County main jail yesterday evening.
The Citrus Heights Police Department would like to thank the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in locating and safely detaining both suspects in this case in coordination with our Detective unit.
“While it is rare to make a homicide arrest within 24 hours, it is possible through strong investigative drive and perseverance, technology, and great allied agency law enforcement partnerships. We are extremely proud of the work done by our homicide detectives and appreciative to the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office who assisted,” said Investigations Lieutenant Wesley Herman.

On August 1st, 2023, shortly after 11:30 pm, Citrus Heights Police officers responded to several 9-1-1 callers reporting an adult male had been shot near the 7800 block of Sayonara Drive in Citrus Heights.
Officers arrived and located an adult male in the street who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Life-sustaining medical aid was provided by officers until paramedics arrived and took over, transporting the victim to a nearby hospital. However, the male victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased in the early morning hours of August 2nd, 2023.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
Citrus Heights Detectives responded and began a homicide investigation to include interviewing witnesses and reviewing area video recordings. Several subjects seen fleeing the area immediately after the shooting are wanted for questioning in connection to this homicide. Citrus Heights Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) arrived and collected multiple pieces of evidence.
Based upon the preliminary investigation, there does not appear to be any additional threats of danger in the area related to this incident.
