A REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE’S NIGHT was held on October 4th at Calpine Elks Lodge in Portola for candidates running for US Senate, State Senate D1, and Assembly District 1. The event was facilitated by Gold Nugget Republican Women and President Colicia Palmer served as timekeeper for the event while Sharon Dryden was moderator.
ERIC EARLY who is running for U.S. Senate was unable to attend but had Colicia read his statement. Early said he was a proud MAGA Republican and a patriot who loves America. He has never been in government. He is a lawyer, husband and father of four kids who lives in Los Angeles. He stated our nation is under attack from within. We must close borders, protect parents and children.
DENICE GARY-PANDOL is running for U.S. Senate. She too is a MAGA Republican announcing she voted twice for Donald Trump and will again. She spoke on ending the water crisis by saving 5% of rain water in dams and reservoirs. Fossil fuels to restore energy independence and stated the need to “drill baby drill” which will drive down the price of food and make shipping cost effective. Denice was sick of the sexualization of kids and Critical Race Theory. She was for securing borders, restoring the Nation’s security, and empowering law enforcement, stating, “We need to make crime illegal again.”
DAVID FENNELL is running for State Senate. He is lives in Chico and is running for Brian Dahle’s seat. He grew up in Half Moon Bay and worked in tech for years. His first job he sold computers for Steve Jobs. Fennell felt there is a changing of the guard and huge openings for Republicans. He is for bringing jobs back, reform education, deliver water to farmers, manage forests, protect intellectual property, promote trade and investment, and fight fraud and crime, adding, “If you don’t enforce the law, people will break the law.”
There were five Republican candidates running for Megan Dahle’s seat in Assembly District 1.
MARK MEZZANO is originally from Chicago and now lives in Redding. He was a Highway Patrolman for 29 years. In 2020, Mark was elected to the Redding City Council. Public safety is his top priority and as part of the City Council he increased fire department staffing, making sure there are three firefighters on every engine. The police department was at an all-time low, so offered $40,000 signing bonuses to officers hired with prior experience. Now they have 122 sworn personnel, the most ever. He said they need to focus on human trafficking and hold criminals accountable.
HEATHER HADWICK is from Dorris in Siskiyou County. She and her husband have a farm in Modoc County where they grow hay, pumpkins, vegetables and raise highland cattle. Hadwick is an Emergency Manager and has worked in schools, sheriff’s office and county offices. She was also a teacher and teaches a public safety class at the high school which helps kids learn about law enforcement trades. She has two sons and they are her “why.” Her main goal is to make life more affordable so her kids can stay in California. She spoke on the need for better forest management, parental rights and local control. As for reaching across the aisle, Hadwick felt she is good at collaborating and the teacher in her can educate them to cross the aisle.
TENESSA AUDETTE is the City of Redding Mayor Pro Tem. She grew up in a large family and has three teenagers, 2 daughters and a son. She worked eight years on campaigns and is a campaign manager for the RNC. Tenessa has worked in the State Legislature for the last four years. She is an advocate for active forest management, wildfire mitigation and water storage. This District feeds the world from our agricultural products and stated, “What is good for agriculture is good for all of California.” Tenessa spoke on parental rights and felt local school board’s are starting to push back and stated the need to start using the legal system, adding there is more support than we realize. If elected she will work for incremental wins, adding you can’t fight just one battle, you have to fight a few.
MELISSA HUNT is a lifelong resident of Shasta County and has been an Anderson City Council member since 2007. She was Mayor in 2015 and 2020. She is a retired Christian school teacher and now realtor. Melissa served on the Federal Grand Jury for 16 months. She has worked to help the police department have tools to keep homeless out of Anderson by making it illegal to panhandle and homeless have to pay fines to get their belongings back if arrested. Melissa supports and wants to protect parent’s rights. Her goal is to be a conservative, Godly voice, adding we need change and common sense in Sacramento.
GARY MICHAELS is originally from Chicago, coming to California in the 1980’s. He builds binary systems and works with school districts. Gary worked on the Reagan campaign and didn’t again until Donald Trump ran. If elected he will work to cut taxes and regulations and promote commerce. Gary will protect ranchers and farmers, and parental rights. He talked on the “limited media coverage” and stated mainstream news is “left leading” and a problem that needs to be fixed. He added the need to find the 21st Century Rush Limbaugh. If elected, he will forge relationships and campaign for others.
All five candidates are pro life.
