Notice on Emergency Fuel Supply in Carr Fire Affected Areas

CIOMA Members Like Cross Petroleum Working to Maintain Fuel Supplies for Evacuees and First-Responders

REDDING, CA 8/1/2018 – Despite the emergency in Shasta and Northern California, local fuel suppliers have been working around the clock to ensure that the fuel supply for evacuees and first-responders will not be interrupted.

Since the current State of Emergency was first declared by Governor Brown on July 26th, fuel sales, due to the evacuation efforts, have risen, leaving some gas stations vulnerable to shortages. Cross Petroleum has continuously delivered motor fuel into the Redding market, ensuring that residents can continue to evacuate safely, and first-responders can continue their life-saving efforts.

“Many stations have been unable to sell Regular Unleaded fuel while their tanks were at unsafe levels, awaiting their fuel deliveries,” says Jimm Cross of Cross Petroleum. “We have seen the spot outages reduced over the weekend and inventory levels at the retail facilities are building towards normal levels.”

Motor fuel supply for Northern California along the I-5 corridor comes primarily through the Kinder-Morgan facility in Chico. While access along this corridor remains open, the fire continues to grow resulting in road closures and shrinking access into emergency areas; presenting dangers for evacuees without sufficient fuel in their vehicles. CIOMA members like Cross Petroleum will continue to emergency efforts to ensure a stable fuel supply for evacuees and first-responders.

At press time, the Carr fire is only 17% contained and continues spread in every direction, burning over 95,000 acres and 650 homes. Over 5,000 structures remain threatened by the blaze. Beginning July 26th, Governor Brown issued a State of Emergency for Shasta, Mariposa, Lake, Mendocino, and Napa Counties. On Sunday, President Trump declared a State of Emergency for California and ordered federal assistance to aid in combatting the fires.

CIOMA is the industry's statewide trade association representing the needs of independent wholesale and retail marketers of gasoline, diesel, lubricating oils and other petroleum products; transporters of those products; and retail convenience store operators. CIOMA’s members serve California’s families, agriculture, police and fire, cities, construction, and delivery industries to name a few.
