ALEXANDRIA, Va. - "The National Federation of Republican Women is appalled that a candidate for President of the United States would describe our hard-working, freedom-loving members as a 'basket of deplorables,' " NFRW President Carrie Almond said today in a statement, adding that she finds Hillary Clinton's targeting of millions of citizens across America "alarming."
"Hillary Clinton's mindset - that she has the power to select and place people in 'baskets' and that she has the right to choose segments of our country to treat as 'deplorables' - is alarming," Almond continued. "Her vitriol does not represent American voters. She does not represent American women."
In responding to Clinton's statements made at a fundraiser in New York on Friday, Almond said, "The women who make up our organization are from all areas of our great nation and all walks of life: moms, wives, police officers, farmers, military personnel, teachers, small business owners and executives." Almond continued, "We all love America and our families, we believe in freedom of religion and we work hard to make our communities, states, and nation a great place for ALL to live and thrive, not just a place for liberal elites to prosper."
The NFRW stands with Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Mike Pence who stated today, "I think millions of Americans were shocked and saddened to hear Hillary Clinton refer to people across this country as a 'basket of deplorables' in a prepared speech before wealthy donors in New York City." Pence went on to say, "She said that half of the people supporting Donald Trump and I were 'irredeemable'; we are not America." The Vice Presidential nominee concluded that the fact that Hillary Clinton would speak about the American people with such disdain is "one more reason that disqualifies her to serve in the highest office in the land; anyone who has that low of an opinion of the American people should never serve as President of the United States of America."
