Musica Sierra brought Chanticleer, our country's top professional men's chorus, to our Loyalton schools on Sept 27th, 2023, for a collaborative performance with the 5/6th grade class and an assembly at the High School. This group's Artistic Director, Tim Keeler, is best friends with Owen and Lindsay McIntosh, and this collaboration began in 2021 when Tim and some of the members of Chanticleer came to a performance at The Lost Marbles Ranch. In love with the new commission, they heard "The Rivers are Our Brothers" that day, a new commission by Majel Connery for our Musical Headwaters program. In 2023, Musica Sierra and Chanticleer co-commissioned an arrangement of these seven songs with the added element of a children's chorus collaboration! The students and staff at both sites thoroughly enjoyed and were inspired by these once-in-a-lifetime performances. This was a huge success, and this enrichment was made possible by a grant from the California Arts Council, Impact Grant, and Steven Nightingale.
