On Tuesday, September 26, Plumas Bank hosted a panel of experts discussion on measures E and F on Tuesday, September 26th at the Portola Memorial Hall. The Plumas County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved placing these two measures on the November 7, 2023 ballot in support of the new Beckwourth Peak FPD.
Measure E would be formed to provide emergency, medical, rescue, and fire response services in Eastern Plumas County.
Measure F proposes an annual special tax that will be included on the property bill to financially support the Beckwourth Peak FPD. It must pass for the new fire district to be formed and must have 2/3’rds voter approval for those residents residing within the boundary of the new fire district.
All parcel tax proceeds under measure F will go 100% to the new district to provide medical and fire emergency services. Also, tax proceeds cannot be siphoned off for the county or the city general fund or any other purpose. These funds will be managed by the new fire district governed by five locally elected board members. For most residential customers, the tax assessment will only be $110 annually, which calculates out to a little over nine dollars per month. For low-income individuals, the new Board of Directors of Beckworth Peak FPD will establish procedures for implementing a low-income exemption for all landowners who fall within the US Department of Housing and Urban Development income limits for “very low-income “or “poverty level” to apply for partial or complete exemption from the tax. If one is not sure if they live in the boundaries of this proposed new fire protection district, call (530) 316–4301.
