Nevada City, Calif. July 1, 2021 —From the recent enactment of Juneteenth as a federal holiday to the upcoming Fourth of July weekend, Americans have long visited their local national forest to celebrate significant U.S. milestones.
Over the next week, Tahoe National Forest recreation and fire managers are expecting thousands of visitors to the beautiful Tahoe National Forest –and with good reason too. The Tahoe National Forest’s 855,000 acres offers a diversity of exciting recreational opportunities for the whole family including seventy campgrounds, 2,400 miles of trails, 1,350 lakes and ponds, and 3,000 miles of rivers and streams.
Unfortunately, holiday weekends can also be an active time for fire starts. To keep the Tahoe National Forest safe this July 4th holiday, and to keep exploring for many summers to come, please adhere to the following Fire Restrictions, firework prohibition, and responsible recreation guidelines:
- Fireworks are prohibited in the Tahoe National Forest every day, every campground, every location, no exceptions.
- Fire Restriction are currently in effect across the Tahoe National Forest. Campfires and charcoal grills are prohibited unless within certain developed recreation sites. Please visitwww.fs.usda.gov/tahoe for more info.
- Some use of portable campfire rings/stoves/lanterns is allowed provided that the portable campfire rings/stoves/lanterns only burns gas, kerosene, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel and is equipped with a shut-off valve. Please visit www.fs.usda.gov/tahoe for more info.
- Where allowed within certain developed recreation sites, campfires must be attended at all times. Make sure your campfire is dead-out out before you leave too: douse with water, stir, and feel for warmth.
- Most campsites are booked in advance –you may not be able to secure a campground without a reservation.
- To reserve a Tahoe National Forest campsite, please visit recreation.gov.
- No trashcan? It’s your responsibility to pack out all trash when you leave.
