If you have to put on an event, and want to know where to begin, a fun and extensive workshop will be held Wednesday, April 12 at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds. Not only will you learn the many nuts and bolts of putting on a successful event, you will find out secrets of making those events memorable as well.
The workshop will be conducted by John Steffanic, Plumas Sierra County Fair CEO and lifetime event junkie. Steffanic has put on hundreds of events, including the hosting or organizing of the two largest events in Plumas County every year; the Plumas Sierra County Fair and the High Sierra Music Festival. His experience, especially for events held in smaller communities, can help other organizers create more effective projects that will accomplish their goals. His organizational processes and creative ideas can be applied to everything from a block party to a large music festival. “It’s amazing how, with just a little of what you will learn in this workshop, your events will be more successful and less stressful”, says Steffanic.
Special events are becoming a greater component in promoting economic development in many communities. Not every area has a Lake Tahoe or Half Dome to promote, but it may have a local flavor that people are interested in traveling to experience. Events help to boost a local population temporarily, which creates more demand for goods and services, perhaps creating an environment where businesses may expand their offerings or extend hours, all good things for the permanent population. Competition for unique and exciting events is fierce, but this workshop can help give attendees an edge.
Attendees will receive a workbook filled with useful worksheets that will walk them through planning, operations and execution of a successful event. Would be organizers will learn how to establish a stated purpose for their event, and how to set realistic expectations. Steffanic will explain how to build a team, organize the event, promote, prepare a budget and plan for the unexpected. All the while, giving great advice on what sorts of details can put your event head and shoulders above the others.
When asked who should attend the workshop, Steffanic advises, “Of course, any community member who helps put on local festivals. But many people have to organize things like church events, educational programs, and just regular parties. Anyone who wants to put on special gatherings can benefit.” As mentioned, many churches put on events year round, as do schools and government agencies. Businesses who want to put on promotional events will get a lot out of the presentation.
