Auburn – Due to dry conditions, lack of precipitation and forecasted high winds all door yard burning in Nevada, Yuba, Placer and Sierra Counties is suspended until further notice. “We are still experiencing critical fire danger as we move into mid-December and we need everyone’s help in preventing new ignitions and the potential for damaging wildfires.” Said CAL FIRE Unit Chief and Placer County Fire Department Chief Brian Estes.
In preparation for forecasted high winds CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit has prepositioned a helicopter at Auburn Station 10 Headquarters and will be positioning 5 additional CAL FIRE engines from outside of the county into our unit to augment our staffing forces and gives us the maximum amount of resources through this and future wind events. “We will evaluate the ability to open up burning again after this wind event passes, but until we receive measurable precipitation, we need to be prepared to take these precautions. CAL FIRE and the Placer County Fire Department stand ready to respond to the ever-increasing threat of damaging wildfires even into the fall and winter months.
