Circumstance: Death Investigation
Date of incident: August 10, 2017
Location of Occurrence: Overgrown private property area located off Bucks Lake Rd just west of Quincy proper.
Victim: John Doe (an unidentified male subject)

On the morning of Friday, August 11, 2017 Sheriff’s Detectives along with a forensic team from the California Department of Justice Bureau of Forensic Science responded back out to the scene. Further investigation confirmed that the remains are that of an unidentified male. Further investigation is needed to positively confirm the subject’s identity, which could take some time. No criminal activity is suspected regarding this incident.

On Thursday August 10, 2017 at 14:22 hours, the Plumas County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a call from a resident of Quincy reporting the finding of human remains on his property in Quincy. The Sheriff’s Office responded to an area between downtown Quincy and Plumas District Hospital off Bucks Lake Road. A form of identification was located near the remains; however, it is unknown if the identification belongs to the decedent. The California Department of Justice Bureau of Forensic Science has been contacted and will be sending a team to process the remains and the surrounding area. At this time, the incident will be treated as a homicide until information proves otherwise. We will update the public when possible.
