On May 16, 2023, John Thomas Conway was sentenced following his conviction of Second degree murder, a violation of Penal Code section 187(a), including a gun enhancement; two counts of attempted murder; and two counts of assault on two Fish and Wildlife Wardens.
Mr. Conway was arrested on July 4, 2020 after shooting at three individuals, killing one and wounding two others. He then attempted to run down two Fish and Wildlife Wardens. He was eventually stopped by other Fish & Wildlife Warden as he sped toward Downieville.
Following a preliminary hearing and several other procedural motions, a plea agreement was reached where Mr. Conway was sentenced to 39 years to life to be served in the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He began serving his sentence at Folson State Prison on May 17, 2023.
