As each one of our cherished events at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds approaches, we pray, bargain, negotiate and hope that we can have it. First COVID, then the Dixie Fire, we have watched them drop off one by one. And so it is with the 2021 version of the Plumas Homegrown Americana Festival. For the second year in a row, we must cancel this popular gathering.
The most tangible reason is the fact that it appears the fire camp currently in residence at the Fairgrounds looks as if it will be here right up until days before the scheduled event, with no guarantee it would be out even then. Even more concerning is the status of the fire itself; will it be contained, will the air quality be acceptable, will there still be people in need of resources more pressing than a music festival? Each of the cancellations that have occurred since the beginning of this fire has been an easy decision. Disappointing for sure, but an obvious choice none the less.
A heartening sign for the music festival is the number of calls that have been received from as far away as Colorado asking if the event would happen. “Even though it appears we will have a two year break from this festival,” observed Fair Manager John Steffanic, “interest in it remains high. People want to come to Plumas County for Americana music.”
The 2022 Plumas Homegrown Americana Festival will take place September 2-4, 2022 in Quincy, California at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds. Anyone holding a ticket and camping reservation for the 2020 or 2021 event can use that ticket for 2022. If they want a refund for their ticket or camping fees, they can email the event and request a refund. Although there are no plans to increase admission, tickets from 2020 and 2021 will be honored in 2022 regardless of what was paid. Information will continue to be posted on the event website; www.plumasamericana.com.
