CHP REPORTS:
On August 14, at 12:30 a.m. Cathy A. Osburn, 72 of Loyalton was driving a Subaru Forester northbound on SR-89 north of Bear Valley Road and related she removed her eyes away from the roadway momentarily to obtain a water bottle. Her vehicle traveled off the east road edge of SR-89 and she lost control. The vehicle overturned and landed on its roof. Osburn was assisted out of the vehicle by a witness. She was later transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Osburn was wearing her seatbelt and sustained minor injuries.
On August 14, at 11:22 p.m., officers from the CHP Quincy Area were dispatched to investigate a possible hit and run traffic collision that occurred on private property in Beckwourth. Officers were able to locate both vehicles involved in the collision and determined Lance Hawes, 46 of Beckwourth backed the white 1992 Chevy S-10 he was driving into the front left corner of a car parked in a private driveway. Hawes was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and misdemeanor hit and run and booked into Plumas County Jail.
On August 16 at 8:50 p.m. a 37-year-old Olivehurst man was riding his 2002 Yamaha Kodiak northbound on Forest Service R. 28N31 in the area of Wildcat Ridge. As he was traversing a curve to his right on the gravel roadway, he and his ATV left the west road edge striking a berm. The ATV became airborne and descended the embankment on the west side of the forest service road. The rider was ejected from the ATV and died at the scene. A friend of the rider had been following him up the road at a distance because of the dust. He soon realized there was no more dust and wondered where his friend had gone. He turned around and soon found headlights over the west edge of the road. He descended the embankment and found his friend who appeared severely injured or possibly deceased. He then rode back to camp to summon help.
On August 20, at 8 a.m. Michael Carter, 62 of Greenville was riding his bicycle northbound near the right shoulder of SR-89 south of Hot Springs Road. He suffered a medical event resulting in him losing control and overturning with his bicycle. He was wearing a helmet and only received minor injuries.
