Firefighters on the Plumas National Forest had a successful and productive weekend conducting prescribed burning operations in the Butterfly Valley area on the Mont Hough Ranger District near Quincy.
On Sunday, firefighters accomplished 20 acres of treatment. For the weekend, that is a total of 110 acres of critical fuel reduction work for community protection.
Due to a change in weather conditions, including predicted winds early this week, it was determined Sunday to pause on additional ignitions until conditions are more favorable.
Mop-up has continued on the units treated since Saturday and is going well. It is expected that the area will be shifted to patrol status by the end of today.
There will still be firefighter traffic in the area as mop-up and patrol continue in the coming days. Drivers are asked to be aware and use caution in the area.
Sharing photos taken since Sunday. The beginning of the photo is the date (100823 is October 8, 2023), with photos from Sunday reflecting fire behavior and ignitions, and photos from Monday and today showing post-treatment during mop-up.
This will be the final update for this round of treatment in Butterfly Valley. There are still units in the area for treatment and the possibility for additional prescribed burning in the area, conditions permitting.
