ounty Public Health received notification of a sixth positive COVID- 19 test result for a resident of Sierra County. The symptomatic individual is isolating at home and the household is quarantining. An investigation is underway to determine if any other residents may have been exposed through close contact. Possible exposed residents identified during the investigation will be contacted by a member of the Public Health COVID-19 Response Team for further screening. A close contact is defined by the CDC as within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes 2 days prior to symptom onset, or a positive test of an asymptomatic person.
If you believe you have been a close contact of somebody testing positive, isolate at home and monitor yourself for symptoms for 14 days since last contact with that person. Consider being tested. Options for testing are listed on the Sierra County Website, or call your health care provider.
This is the fourth positive case within 14 days for Sierra County. As you are aware, cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in our neighboring counties and cities where many of our residents work and shop. With the opening of our schools just around the corner, this is not a time to let down our guard.
Every person has a role to play in limiting the spread of COVID-19:
Practice physical distancing of 6 feet from others.
Wash your hands with soap and water often, especially after you have been in a public place. Wear a face covering when in businesses, at school, or unable to maintain 6 feet distance.
When feeling sick stay home.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we stand together to beat this disease.
