The Assembly Budget Committee held its first hearing today to review the Governor’s spending proposal. Assemblyman Vince Fong (R-Central Valley), Vice Chair of the Committee issued the following statement:
“California’s fiscal mess was completely predicted as I have continued to warn about the need for fiscal responsibility in a serious way.
“California’s massive deficit demands prudence and accountability. The governor’s proposal does not rein in spending adequately but continues to rely on budget gimmicks, cost shifts and debt - unfortunate actions that will make California’s fiscal mess larger and larger year over year. That is unacceptable.
“Californians are rightfully upset. Gas prices are still high, roads are still crumbling, retail theft is still rampant, and water and energy infrastructure is critically needed. We need to get back to the basics and make decisions grounded in economic reality.”
