On August 27, 2024, at approximately 1225 hours, Akridge (45 yrs old out of Quincy) was driving his 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 eastbound on SR-70, west of Camp Layman Road with his cruise control set at 55 miles per hour.  Frederickson (27 yrs old out of Greenville) was driving a 2018 Peterbilt Log Truck, and was stopped behind a line of traffic due to traffic control on SR-70, west of Camp Layman Road, directly ahead of Akridge.  Akridge was drowsy and fell asleep as he approached Fredrickson stopped head.  As a result, Akridge was unable to safely stop behind Frederickson and crashed into the rear of the Peterbilt within the eastbound lane of SR-70.  After the crash both vehicles were towed from the scene.  Akridge sustained major injuries as a result of this crash.  Frederickson was not injured.
