On Friday, November 8, the CHP introduced six new K-9 teams during a certification ceremony at the K-9 Training Facility on the CHP Academy grounds in West Sacramento. Just after 7 a.m. on November 4, a small single-engine airplane with only the pilot on board landed on Highway 85. The plane ran out of fuel causing the emergency landing. Crews partially disassembled the plane to tow it from the scene safely. Multiple lanes were blocked south of Stevens Creek Boulevard for around six hours before reopening around 1 p.m.
During the early hours of November 2nd, our Santa Fe Springs officers conducted an enforcement stop on an individual suspected of driving under the influence. Further investigation led to the revelation of a hidden firearm and narcotics presumed to be for sale. The combined street value of all the recovered drugs, including cocaine and marijuana, amounted to over $696,000. The intoxicated driver was arrested, the dangerous drugs seized, and the unpermitted firearm confiscated.
On November 5, West Los Angeles CHP Officer Harman embarked on an investigation regarding a traffic incident in which a Chevrolet SUV collided head-on with a Culver City Police Department patrol vehicle. During this investigation, he noticed certain signs and symptoms suggesting the driver was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest. Thankfully, no major injuries were sustained in this incident. Officers Harman and his graveyard partner, Officer Cervantes, have collectively been involved in over 200 DUI-related arrests this year.
On November 6, the CHP’s Northern Division extends its deepest appreciation to officers from Red Bluff, Trinity River, and William's area offices. These diligent officers made remarkable strides in the recovery of stolen vehicles and apprehension of alleged car thieves. Each was celebrated with a "10851" award in recognition of their contributions. Similarly, officers and deputies from Redding Police Department, Shasta County Sheriff's Department, and Lake County Sheriff's Department were acclaimed for their exceptional work. In 2023, 202,893 vehicles were stolen in California. Through the commendable dedication and relentless efforts of the decorated officers and deputies, Shasta, Tehama, Trinity, and Colusa counties witnessed impressive reductions in vehicle theft counts, experiencing declines in auto theft ranging from 10% to 21%.
