TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

My name is Sarah Palmer, and my son Charlie has been fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia B-Cell for 791 days as of today, September 26th.

It is heartbreaking and disappointing that throughout our community not one business, health care provider, golf course, sheriff’s office, or restaurant has shown support for September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Cancer is more than just the pink ribbon. While breast cancer awareness is important, we also have children here in the Sierra Valley and in surrounding counties like Plumas and Lassen who are fighting for their lives right now. Yet, not one business, pharmacy, or health care facility has recognized these children or stood in solidarity with them this month.

The gold ribbon represents childhood cancer awareness. Alongside it, ribbons of green, orange, red, and purple all symbolize battles against different cancers. But sadly, the gold ribbon the one that represents our children goes unseen.

Our children matter. They deserve to be recognized, honored, and supported in their fight, just as much as any other group. I urge every business, organization, and community leader to step forward and show support for the gold ribbon each September. Our kids deserve nothing less.
Thank you,
Sarah Palmer
