The contest welcomed submissions in various mediums, including watercolor, colored pencil, photography, digital artwork, acrylic, gouache, graphite, and more. Artists of all ages participated, with entries organized into three age brackets: kids, youth, and adults. The submission period ran from April 1st through May 5th.
This year's distinguished panel of judges featured renowned local artists Sarah Smith, Trina Gold, and Cathee Vanrossem-St.Clair. The judges were impressed by the diversity and quality of the submissions, offering valuable feedback and critiques to each artist. "Finding your style isn’t easy," they noted. "For many artists, the journey involves experimenting and evolving over time. Feedback can help highlight the natural consistencies in your work that you might not even notice."
Cathee Vanrossem-St.Clair shared her perspective on the artistic process: "To grow and improve, you must make changes and endure the pain that comes with it. Painting, to me, involves dealing with pain and suffering by creating something new." Sarah Smith added, "It's painful to give birth, and that's what you're doing when you're painting—bringing something into the world that didn't exist before."
The award ceremony, held on Thursday, May 9th, 2024, was a resounding success, with full attendance and a special demonstration by watercolorist Teri Smith, who showcased techniques from her watercolor classes. The ceremony uplifted the artists by providing them with constructive feedback and giving them a taste of participating in a professional art show.
Carrie Ridgel, the owner of The Office BOSS, along with Nathan Gamett, Director of Marketing and Printing Production, and Freddy Garcia, Retail Manager, organized the award ceremony. Their efforts created a memorable event for all the artists, their families, and friends.
