SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 22, 2024) — Sierra Nevada Journeys is hosting a new camp concept that came from a conversation with people in the community. We were posed with the idea of what it would be like to go back to summer camp as an adult. The seed was planted and we created Grown-Up Getaway Camp; it is a weekend summer camp experience exclusively for adults. It is happening August 16-18, 2024, at our Outdoor Education Camp in Portola, CA.
The experience is nostalgic of all the things you enjoyed about summer camp as a kid but with an adult twist. There are activities that we’re known for such as our challenge course, large group games, nature hikes, kayaking, archery and swimming. Then we added a layer of sizzle with live music by the talented multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Kat Heart from Reno, NV. Visualize an intimate setting by the campfire listening to Kat belt out her amazing songs while roasting marshmallows.
We’re bringing Theo “TSAVO” Scott-Femenalla to DJ by the pool; TSAVO not only kicks some mean tunes as a music artist and producer but he is also an Afro-Indigenous Farmer and Environmentalist. Could you pick a better match for an organization like Sierra Nevada Journeys and Grown-Up Getaway Camp to have as your DJ?
Also, in the spirit of local art and nature, Liz Swindell, artist, owner and curator of Wild Pines shop will be leading a Paint & Sip session. Liz teaches her favorite method for creating expressive and colorful landscapes and nature scenes of the iconic Lost Sierra region. Campers will get to paint in nature and take home a memory from their weekend with us.
IMBĪB Custom Brews and Pigeon Head Brewery have also stepped up to support our happy hour and Build-Your-Own-Cocktail scavenger hunt.
“We look forward to hosting this brand new event with some amazing folks in our community. It is 'fun for a cause.' This is not a typical buy-a-table fundraiser. We are providing a nostalgic summer camp experience for adults only, and it’s going to be a blast. All proceeds support our Student Scholarship Fund. I can’t wait to see you there,” said Sean Hill, CEO of Sierra Nevada Journeys.
The weekend cost including all your meals and bunk-style accommodations is $300. All the details can be found at sierranevadajourneys.org.
