QUINCY, CA — An approximately 2-mile section of the Mills Peak Trail on the Plumas National Forest Beckwourth Ranger District is closed weekdays due to fuel reduction work occurring in the area.
The trail, popular with mountain bikers, will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Friday until the work is completed. Current estimates are the work will be done by the end of the day Friday, October 18, conditions permitting. Notification will be provided when the work is complete.
Efforts will be made by timber operators to ensure the trail is clear on the weekends, but mountain bikers should use caution.
A detour is available using Forest Road 22N42 on the south end of the trail, heading east to Forest Road 22N98 then traveling north to where it intersects with the trail.
The fuel reduction and forest health restoration work occurring along the trail is the Mills Multiple Product Thinning Project. This project is helping to protect the community of Graeagle and improve public safety in the area by reducing the risk of wildfire.
“We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation while we continue to work on this critical project,” said Beckwourth District Ranger Mike Rahe. “With the great fall weather we are having, we also appreciate the work by our contractor to ensure the trail is open for everyone to enjoy on the weekends.”
