Firefighters on the Feather River Ranger District successfully treated approximately 32 acres today on the prescribed burn operation approximately 1 mile from La Porte.
Fuel consumption was good with a resulting low to moderate intensity mosaic burn. Tonight there is still active burning within the unit and glow from the prescribed burn will be visible in the surrounding area and along roadways. Firefighters are monitoring the prescribed burn overnight.
Smoke dispersal was good, with excellent lift this afternoon and evening. Smoke is expected to impact La Porte Road and surrounding forest roads, reducing visibility later tonight and early tomorrow morning. Drivers in the area should use caution. Smoke impacts should decrease in the coming days.
There are no further ignitions this week. Firefighters will be working on mop-up and patrol through the weekend and early next week. Rain is predicted over the area this weekend, which is expected to help with mop-up.
There will continue to be increased firefighting equipment traffic in the area. Drivers should use caution, watch for fire equipment exiting and entering area roadways, firefighters working near roads and possible slow traffic.
Area residents and visitors planning to recreate in the area, including hunting and fishing, are asked to be aware of their surroundings, be prepared for possible short-term smoke and reduced visibility, and to watch for firefighter traffic.
