The Plumas County Sheriff's Office has been informed that the annual Rainbow Family Gathering will take place in Plumas County over the Fourth of July. This unauthorized event has raised significant concerns for our community and public safety.
The Rainbow Family Gathering, known for attracting large crowds, has historically refused to complete the required permits for their event. We anticipate the arrival of 5,000-10,000 attendees by July 4th. This influx will create substantial challenges, including environmental impact, and public safety issues.
Attendees are known to set up extensive infrastructure, including welcome tents, camping areas, outdoor kitchens, and health care zones. The diverse group of participants often includes individuals who engage in illegal or socially unacceptable behavior, such as public nudity, civil disobedience, drug and alcohol abuse, and confrontations with locals.
To mitigate the impact of this event, the Plumas County Sheriff's Office is collaborating with state and federal partners. Our primary goal is to maintain public safety and uphold the law. There have been significant challenges during previous gatherings, including increased criminal activity, environmental damage, and abandoned vehicles, all of which pose risks to our local environment and community safety.
As law enforcement officials responsible for maintaining order in Plumas County, we are taking extensive measures to prepare for this event. There will be a substantial law enforcement presence in and around Antelope Lake before, during, and after the gathering. We will enforce a strict "zero-tolerance" policy towards any illegal activities or behaviors that threaten public safety or our natural resources. Law enforcement will actively monitor the area to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations.
We urge the organizers and participants of the Rainbow Family Gathering to respect our community, residents, and local businesses. Any unlawful activities that cause harm or damage will result in appropriate law enforcement action.
We appreciate the cooperation of our community and ask for your understanding as we work to manage the impact of this event. Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all Plumas County residents and visitors.
