THE LONG-AWAITED “Van Daam” water infrastructure project required unexpected water shutoffs for a few hours last Thursday and again on Friday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. City residents were warned to boil water for at least one minute before using. On Saturday, City of Loyalton purchased two pallets of water and handed them out, according to family size, at the Loyalton firehouse at 12 noon. Leonards Grocery had more bottled water delivered the following Monday.
Because of this extended period without water, there was no school on Friday for all Loyalton schools. Gonzo’s Little Frosty closed but reopened Saturday. Drifter’s Table was closed for the weekend and Hair Faire closed and cancelled appointments on Friday.
On Tuesday the City of Loyalton had lifted the Boil Water Notice. Recent water quality testing confirmed the system met all state drinking water standards and residents could resume normal water use.
