KELLY CHAMPION was recognized during the joint meeting for Sierra Plumas Joint Unified School District and Sierra County Office of Education on Tuesday, December 9th for her leadership the last three years as President.
Board member Rhynie Hollitz was elected President for 2026 and Champion will be Vice President with John Martinetti remaining as Clerk.
Champion was presented a certificate of appreciation and poinsettia. Hollitz commended her on her commitment and hard work, stating she did an outstanding job providing leadership. Martinetti said Champion set an example and made him want to contribute more in the community and become a board member. Board member Richard Jaquez echoed the comments adding she asked the tough questions when they needed to be asked.
District Superintendent Sean Snider commented on the amount of time Champion put into that role which included taking the Masters in Governance training series all with the goal of becoming a better board member. County Superintendent James Berardi appreciated Champion’s willingness to grow and learn more, calling her a great asset to the community at large. Champion appreciated serving and enjoyed how the board has come together in a positive direction, adding “it’s been a pleasure serving the community.”
