Quincy, CA — On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, just after 2:00 PM, an inmate fled from custody following
court proceedings at the Plumas County Courthouse.
Robert Wahlberg, 60, of Beckwourth, CA, escaped from custody while being loaded for transport back to the Plumas County Correctional Facility. Wahlberg fled from the rear of the courthouse, heading west toward Dame Shirley Plaza.
A Correctional Officer immediately pursued the inmate on foot. During the pursuit, an off-duty Sheriff’s Court Security Officer, who happened to be in the area on an unrelated job, observed the incident and quickly intervened. Thanks to the swift and decisive actions of the off-duty officer, Wahlberg was safely apprehended without incident.
Wahlberg is now facing an additional charge of escape from custody. The case will be referred to the Plumas County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
We commend and sincerely thank the off-duty Court Security Officer for their alertness and response, which played a critical role in the safe resolution of this incident.
