Cara Bowling, Parents and teachers Lead Case Manager/Supervisor in Sierra County with Anne Renteria who is a Parent Educator.
Healthy Babies is a new innovative home visiting program, brought to you in partnership with Child Advocates of Nevada County and Sierra County Public Health. Healthy Babies is a voluntary program available to all prenatal mothers, parents, and guardians of children ages 0 to 5, who reside within Sierra County. There are no eligibility requirements beyond being a Sierra County resident with a child under the age of 5. All families expecting or with young children deserve support and connection to community!
The main purpose and goal of this program is to empower parents to be the first and most important teachers in their child’s life. The program uses the Parents As Teachers certified model and curriculum to provide information, resources, developmental screening, family centered assessments and much more.
A Parent Educator will visit your home for approximately one hour per week for at least eight weeks. Each visit will consist of a fun and educational parent-child activity and discussion of any and all topics of interest to each family within the realm of developmental parenting and family well-being. Parent Educators are also available to answer questions, provide guidance, and connect parents with available resources. After the initial eight visits, the Parent Educator and family together assess and decide continued meeting frequency to fit each family’s unique interests, questions, and schedules.
In addition to in-home support, the Healthy Babies program facilitates group connections open to all local families and children. This enables families to socialize and interact with other parents and their children to potentially build an additional support system in their lives, especially helpful for families who don’t have relatives living close by.
Healthy Babies is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 5:00pm and every other Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
