BLAIRSDEN, CA — Last night, fire leadership declared the Gold Complex officially controlled.
Plumas National Forest closure order 05-11-01-24-02 will be lifted by Friday morning. The closure of the area on the Tahoe National Forest, referenced as Forest Order Number 17-24-15, remains in place and the public is asked to avoid the area.
Controlled does not mean the fire is out. For those entering the areas burned by the Mill and Smith fires that made up the Gold Complex, it is advised to be aware of your surroundings and watch for hazards.
This includes fire damaged trees, possible snags and falling branches, isolated pockets of heat and even burning. Soils may be less stable in these areas, so caution should be used.
Firefighters are continuing to patrol the fires in the Gold Complex.
