SACRAMENTO - Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gavin Newsom calling a special session of the Legislature to consider his half-baked idea to mandate that refiners withhold fuel from the market:
“From increasing the gas tax to a new regulation increasing prices 50 cents a gallon, Newsom has been all in on higher gas prices - so why would anybody expect him to stop now? His own energy regulators warned that this scheme could drive up prices and cause shortages, but that’s not stopping him.
“You want a special session, Gavin? Let’s do it.
“Here are my first three bills: 1.) Exempt gas from your cap & trade law and watch prices fall overnight. 2.) Streamline approval of new pipelines and refinery storage to avoid price spikes. 3.) Repeal your “price gouging” law that hasn’t done a damn thing to bring down prices.”
