FIRE NEAR WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS RANCH

7/22/2024

Each year, about this time, the volunteers at White Sulphur Springs Ranch put on a rummage sale at the historic ranch site.  This year 3 volunteers who put up the banner on the front of the ranch house were shocked to see a column of black smoke rising behind the property.  Very soon a string of emergency vehicles, police and fire, drove through the front gate and parked in the driveway. An airplane droned overhead and traffic controls were put into effect. This was all happening as the three Ranch members were tying the banner onto the second story of the ranch house facing Highway 89. They were beginning to feel concerned for the property that they had worked so hard to restore. The banner went up just as emergency vehicles drove onto the property.  Police informed those present that Whitehawk Ranch was being evacuated.
The date for the annual rummage sale is Saturday, August 10 and the time is 9AM to 1:30 PM. The public can donate tax deductible items for the sale on Saturday August 3rd and Sunday August 4th from 11AM to 2PM.  The Ranch site is located at 2200 Highway 89 in Clio, about ¼ mile from the intersection of highways 89 and A15, at the entrance to the Mohawk Valley.
This will be the sixth annual fund raiser and this year the old Ranch House will be open for visits by the attendees during all of the sale hours.  As usual, things like electronics, bedding, clothing and shoes, car seats and exercise equipment can’t be accepted. All sales are final and information is available by calling 530-836-0254 or 530-836-0311.  The website has lots of information about the sale and the efforts of an army of volunteers to restore this historic site….www.WhiteSulpurSpringsRanch.com
Volunteers Tim Buckhout, Judy Porep-Lullo and John Lullo put up the banner and then worked their way past the emergency vehicles and finally exited the scene.  Local residents should be grateful for the fast and extensive response made by local police and fire personnel. They made us feel that the beloved ranch site in Clio was out of danger.
