PORTOLA, CA— Feather River Action! the Portola, CA-based grassroots environmental group defending the Feather River watershed from harm and protecting communities, recently distributed a questionnaire to candidates running in the June 2nd primary for the new Prop. 50-formed 1st congressional district that stretches from Lassen to Sonoma Counties– including Plumas.
According to Director Josh Hart, "Good federal representation for our area is particularly crucial for protection of public lands given the 1 million+ acres of federally managed land in Plumas County alone. With the extreme logging and mass herbicide use being pushed under the guise of community protection and forest health (but which is actually endangering communities and destroying local forests) we need bold leadership in congress to genuinely stand up for communities, public land users and the dense, healthy forests that sustain the watershed, not just timber industry shareholders. We hope the remaining candidates will respond to the questionnaire, as voters deserve to know as much as possible about the policies and opinions of everyone running, in order to make an informed decision."
Candidates who responded include Janice Karrmann and Kyle Wilson (who has since dropped out of the race and endorsed Audrey Denney).
Those who have not responded to the questionnaire (as of April 30th) include: Audrey Denney, Mike McGuire, James Gallagher, Richard T. Minner, and Timothy Sean Kelly.
If people are not registered, they can register to vote here. The deadline to register to vote for California’s primary election is May 18, 2026. After this date, you can still conditionally register and vote at your county elections office up to and including Election Day.
People can read the questions and full candidate responses (as well as view a video from the April 7th Sen McGuire Sierraville townhall meeting on the subject of wildfire and forest policy) online at our website:
