EXCITEMENT BUILDS FOR LOYALTON MIDDLE SCHOOL REOPENING!

8/8/2025

The energy is high as staff put the finishing touches on preparations for the reopening of Loyalton Middle School! Parents and students will get their first look at the campus and classrooms during Grizzly Night on Thursday, August 14 at 5:00 p.m.
We are pleased to announce that former Loyalton Elementary teacher Laurie Petterson will serve as the school’s Teaching Principal, joined by Secretary Shannon Scott. The teaching team will include former Loyalton High School teachers Jason Rosecrans and Margaret Binkley, former Loyalton Elementary teacher Amy Mason, and Loyalton High School P.E. teacher Sara Torricelli, who will provide physical education instruction. In addition to the core subjects, students will enjoy engaging electives and a variety of school culture activities, giving our 6th-8th graders a true middle school experience.
To make room for the middle school, district office staff have relocated, freeing up portable classrooms 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. The new middle school office will be in Room 2, with classrooms in Rooms 1, 4, and 6. Room 3 will serve as the “Bear Cave,” a space where students can eat lunch during extreme heat or inclement weather.
While the district office’s permanent new buildings have been delayed by six to eight weeks, a temporary home has been secured in the Eastern Plumas Healthcare portable building (formerly the health clinic) behind the long-term care facility in Loyalton.
We are thrilled to welcome students back for the first day of school on Wednesday, August 20. This reopening has been made possible thanks to the Board’s commitment and making this a priority for this year, and the incredible efforts of our maintenance, custodial, administrative, and district office staff. Their countless hours of moving, cleaning, and last-minute preparations are deeply appreciated. Loyalton Middle School is ready for an exciting year ahead!

Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District
