On November 20, 2024, at approximately 4:20 PM, an unidentified individual was driving a grey Subaru Outback northbound on State Route 89 near Dixie Canyon Road at an unknown but estimated high rate of speed.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver allowed the vehicle to drift off the roadway onto the east dirt shoulder of SR-89. The Subaru Outback collided head-on with a large cedar tree, shearing the tree off just above its base. The vehicle came to rest in a gully east of SR-89, facing northeast, with its front end positioned above Dixie Creek.
Following the collision, the Subaru Outback caught fire. Tragically, the driver succumbed to their injuries, and both the individual and the vehicle were consumed by the fire.
The identity of the driver remains under investigation.
This incident is being actively investigated by the California Highway Patrol and the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol Quincy Area.
