SACRAMENTO— Today, the Assembly Republican Caucus announced that Assemblywoman Alexandra M. Macedo (R-Tulare) has been elected as the new Assembly Minority Leader.
Incoming Assembly Minority Leader Macedo and the Assembly Republican Caucus are laser-focused on a shared priority: protecting California families and small businesses from the relentless affordability crisis gripping our state.
From sky-high gas prices to soaring utility rates and rising taxes, everyday Californians are facing unsustainable economic pressures.
“I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me, and I am proud to stand alongside a unified caucus dedicated to real, common-sense solutions,” said Leader Alexandra M. Minority Whip – Assemblyman David Tangipa (R-Fresno)

He successfully authored and passed legislation to enforce strict oversight, transparency and fiscal accountability on California’s High-Speed Rail project. Assemblyman Tangipa stands out as a relentless, principled advocate for fiscal responsibility in state government.
Minority Floor Leader – Assemblyman Josh Hoover (R-Folsom)
A steadfast advocate for California families and youth, Assemblyman Hoover spearheaded the fight to reopen schools during the pandemic, successfully making the Folsom Cordova Unified School District the first in the region to welcome students back to in-person learning. He authored landmark legislation – the Phone-Free Schools Act – to increase academic performance and protect the mental health of students. Assemblyman Hoover has been a relentless advocate for ratepayers, authoring impactful legislation aimed at reining in rising utility costs and lowering household energy bills.
Minority Caucus Chair – Assemblywoman Natasha Johnson (R-Lake Elsinore).
Known for her practical approach and ability to unite diverse voices, Assemblywoman Johnson has built a reputation as a results-driven leader who puts her community first. Her leadership has helped her district’s local economy, attracted new businesses and enhanced public safety. She has worked tirelessly to protect taxpayers, cut red tape and ensure law enforcement has the tools they need to keep neighborhoods safe.
Minority Deputy Leader – Assemblyman Joe Patterson (R-Rocklin)
A fighter for a safer and more transparent government, Assemblyman Patterson is committed to protecting neighborhoods and empowering families. Assemblyman Patterson is a champion for good government; he authored groundbreaking legislation that curbs secret state nondisclosure agreements (NDAs). He also successfully passed legislation that allows prosecutors to increase penalties on repeat fentanyl dealers.
