As you may have heard, us folks in Sierra City hold a car show each September as an event to raise funds for our Volunteer Fire Department. We call it the Big City Rod Run and this year will be the 15th time we try to pull it off. Unfortunately, we have had a bit of difficulty putting on the show each year as our volunteer staff continues to dwindle so, Sandy Blake and I have decided that this will be our last show. It has been a lot of fun, but the time has come!
This year the meet and greet will be held at the Buttes Resort, 230 Main Street in Sierra City on Friday, September 6th from 4pm to 7pm. Everybody is welcome and we hope to see many community members attend! We will be providing a free taco bar along with sodas, beer and wine for Sale. You can even be one of the first to pick up a final Rod Run T-shirt! This is a good opportunity for car folks and community members alike to get together to spread rumors, half-truths and downright lies! You can also register your vehicle for the car show event which will be held on Saturday, September 7th from 10am to 4pm. Come join us and say hello to your neighbors!
The Danny Horton Trio will be providing free live music in the park across from the Country Store from 11am to 1:30pm which has been generously sponsored by the Sierra County Arts Council. There will also be food, T-shirts and a raffle held which will include the famous Booze Wagon amongst many other fabulous prizes donated by local businesses and the Sierra City Improvement Group. The car show judging will be complete by 1:30pm and we will hold the award ceremony starting around 2pm. This year we will give out 25 awards which have been sponsored by local businesses here in the county. Many thanks to those businesses that sponsored an award this year!
After the awards ceremony we will then have a car parade that will start at the country store (Castagna Ln) which will then head down to the Sierra Pines Resort and back up Main Street though beautiful downtown Sierra City on their way to the Yuba River Inn.
We hope to see everyone at the event this year and hope that you can attend our final Big City Rod Run! Be there or be square!
