ANNIE TERRASAS will serve as the 2026 Loyalton Parade Grand Marshal.
Annie was born in the former two-story hospital on Beckwith Street in 1937 to Rosie and Cesare Belli and was the second of seven kids. She was raised on site of the Belli Cheese Factory which opened in 1939 and remembers it as her favorite place, milking cows when the power went out and shoveling cow manure to be outside. She says she could, “milk cows, walk up hill and shoot a deer” - all before school.
The original house burned in 1940 and her dad, a brick mason who arrived here from Personico, Switzerland in 1925, built a new house and brick dairy.
Annie attended local schools , was head cheerleader for 3 years ( it was an elected position back then)and graduated from Loyalton High School in 1955 and attended beauty college in Reno. She married Kenneth Ambler In 1955, moved to San Jose, raising 4 children. …Annie always preferred to be outside, so, in 1969, becoming a mail carrier in San Jose was the perfect job. She divorced in 1975, Married Frank Terrasas,in 1979, transferred to Vallejo, CA from 1979-1983 , transferred to Reno 1983and walked a route in Reno, NV twenty years for a total of 35 years’ retired in 2004.She always enjoyed delivering the mail.
She and husband, Frank Terrasas moved back in 1983 and Frank opened Frank’s Garage in Vinton. They built their home on 2.5 acres at 19 Edelweiss Drive which was part of the 680-acre Belli Cheese Factory property. When Frank died in 1999. Annie would hold garage sales in the establishment, to sell Franks automotive equipment, which lasted 4 yrs., thanks to brother Roy..One of their customers was the one who told her about a “honky tonk”on Oddie Blvd. In Reno, that started her love of country dancing.
Annie had started dancing with a local group started by Ken Wilson of Reno at Golden West Saloon about 2001. Dancing “honky tonk” in Reno, Annie met Craig Fassbender and the two married in 2008. It was Craig’s idea, that she should start teaching, In 2009 she started teaching dance lessons at Truckee Recreation Center, Sierra Brooks, and they now keep locals in shape with dances at their place in Loyalton during summers and at the Senior Center in winter. She also bowls in the winter league at the Grand Sierra resort, in Reno.
Annie is well involved in her community. She joined the Grange in 1983. Shortly after, she arranged horseshoe tournaments on her property to benefit different Veterans Groups .For the last ten years, the Gold Nugget Republican Women have sponsored “Toss for the Troops” at her residence on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, on the 4th of July and on Labor Day with proceeds benefitting the Veterans Guest House in Reno.
Annie previously cooked the Rotary lunch and continues to read to kids at Loyalton Elementary on Mondays, then goes to Extended Care and does “chair exercises “, with the residents there, to country music of course . She is a proud Republican woman and member of Gold Nugget Republican Women since 2004.
Annie and Craig have volunteered manning the Little League Snack Shack for the last 4-5 years.
Annie is proud of her heritage and is looking forward to a trip to Italy and Switzerland with her daughter, granddaughter and her granddaughters step-mother this fall.
